Sulco (Medida de Corte) from Miguel Carvalhais on Vimeo.
Sound installation: Mirrors, wood, loudspeakers, spotlights, computer, sound and electric cables, haze.
July-August 2019, Convento de São Francisco, Coimbra.
“Sulco (Medida de Corte)” is installed at a crossing, a closed space with three doors that is a passage to other rooms. It is inspired in the history of the convent and its multiple occupations — spiritual, industrial, and cultural — and creates an immersive space that emanates light as it absorbs the skin of the room. It tears the space and time of the room, in a plane that rips the floor and separates sound sources that oscillate between friction and synchrony, stability and temporality, chaos and harmony.
“Sulco (Medida de Corte)” was commissioned by Dar a Ouvir, Paisagens Sonoras da Cidade.
